The Cal Poly women’s tennis team (1-2, 0-1 Big West) lost both of its matches this weekend while away at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex. The Mustangs fell 4-0 against Hawaii and 4-0 against Hawaii Pacific.
The Mustangs first lost to No. 67 University of Hawaii (3-3, 1-0 Big West) on Saturday in the team’s Big West Conference opener.
The matchup against the Rainbow Wahine on Saturday started with a strong showing by the Mustangs’ duo of sophomore Zoe Oedekerk and senior Dane Joubert. The two brought home a 6-2 doubles victory and the only win of the entire competition for the Mustangs.
The Rainbow Wahine led the remainder of the matchup, dominating both doubles and singles competitions.
The duo of senior Bryn Bacharach and freshman Ilana Oleynik went 7-6 in its first set, leading to a tiebreaker, but fell 9-7 in the end.
Hawaii dominated in the singles competition, earning three straight wins over the Mustangs to clinch the match. The remaining three singles matchups were left unfinished after the Rainbow Wahine clinched the match early.
The women’s tennis team was served another tough match on Sunday as it faced Hawaii Pacific in a nonconference match and lost 4-0.
The Mustangs did not manage a single victory in any of the doubles and singles competitions against the Sharks.
The No. 1 doubles set was left unfinished, as well as the No. 1, 2, and 5 singles matches once the Sharks met their final four-point tally.
The women’s tennis team travels to Fresno State for a nonconference matchup on Saturday as it hopes to recover in its early spring season.
