The Cal Poly women’s basketball team secured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Big West Conference Tournament next week with a 79-68 win over UC Santa Barbara on the road Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Ariana Elegado paced the Mustangs (17-12, 11-5 Big West) with a career-high 32 points as she connected on 6 of 13 from 3-point range. She became the 12th player in school history, and the third this season along with senior center Molly Schlemer and senior guard Jonae Ervin, to surpass 1,000 career points when she nailed a running jumper with 18:51 to go in the game.
Junior guard Kristen Ale and Molly Schlemer notched 13 points apiece for Cal Poly, while Ervin finished with 12 points.
The Mustangs return to the court Friday with a semifinal matchup in the conference tournament at Honda Center in Anaheim. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
