Bridget Dawson, the wife of Orfalea College of Business Dean Scott Dawson, was riding her bicycle Thursday evening when she was hit by a car and killed, according to an email sent to Cal Poly faculty and staff.
Dawson was biking on Highway 227, south of Biddle Ranch Road around 6:45 p.m. Lisa Smith, 53, was driving a 2012 Chrysler and hit Dawson from behind as the car drifted onto the road’s right shoulder, according to The Tribune. It is still unclear what caused Smith to drift onto the right shoulder.
Dawson was taken to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead around 7:35 p.m., according to The Tribune.
Scott and his family have created a web page “Bridget Inspires” in memory of his late wife, including information on a memorial scholarship and memorial service. The service will take place on Aug. 8 at the World Forestry Center in Portland, OR.
Update July 20: Updated to include details of Dawson’s memorial service.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated Dawson drifted onto the right shoulder. It has been corrected to say Smith drifted onto the right shoulder.
