If you have been downtown in the last month, you may have noticed a change in the parking fees. The city of San Luis Obispo increased the rate by 25 cents parking garages, which now charge $1 for every hour parked in the garage. The first hour is still free.
The City of San Luis Obispo raised the rate to keep revenue in line with the services it provides. The city council approved the increase after the economy began to improve in recent years.
Metered parking along the streets is also expected to see a raise in the rate. The rates will increase to offset losses as construction begins downtown.
Approximately 84 credit card-capable meters will see a raise from $1.25 to $1.50. These meters are expected to be placed in spots where there is high demand for parking, such as in front of popular restaurants and businesses.
On-street parking is typically more expensive. The city encouraged patrons to use the parking garage for long-term parking. Two of the parking garages are located on Palm Street and Chorro Street, and the third garage is located on Marsh Street.
