In case you missed it, an incoming Cal Poly basketball player could be in some serious trouble.
Anthony Di Loreto, an 18-year-old center from Minnetonka, Minn., is set to face two felony charges for his alleged involvement in a Wisconsin bank robbery (see the first link above).
Although he was reportedly the getaway driver, he admitted to authorities the shotgun allegedly wielded by his accomplice inside the bank belonged to him, and that he had willingly helped plan the would-be heist the night before it was attempted Saturday morning.
The real question, though, is why?
FOX 9 in Minneapolis has done some commendable, hard-hitting reporting so far, even going to Di Loreto’s house, which, if you take a look, wouldn’t seem to be the kind of residence occupied by someone in a pinch for some money.
Without speculating too much to Di Loreto’s thoughts in particular, in general, what could lead such a seemingly promising young man in the prime of his life to throw it all away?
Stay tuned for more updates on the situation. It’s becoming known on a scale that could become nationally embarrassing to Cal Poly, which, for some reason, is yet to even issue any kind of statement simply along the lines of, ‘We are aware of the allegations, take them very seriously and are looking into the matter’ like most programs may have already at this stage.
