San Luis Obispo is filled with cute boutiques and good shopping (though it could be argued that a Nordstrom would be a nice addition … ). Located in the heart of San Luis Obispo are many boutiques that cater to all styles.
Not sure which boutiques carry specific styles, or which one has the best deals? No worries. Here’s your guide to local clothing stores and the best of what they each offer, so you know where to shop in San Luis Obispo for the perfect outfit.
Vintage
When you’re in need of good vintage clothing — or just a few pieces to throw together for an ’80s party — visit Retrofit.
The vintage clothing store has a large selection of everything vintage. If you’re in search of an ugly Christmas sweater, visit Retrofit before anywhere else. There you will find a large selection of neon tights, crop tops, cut offs, vintage jackets and many more clothing items and accessories. Better yet, you’ll find all of these items at an affordable price.
Retrofit is located in downtown San Luis Obispo at 956 Monterey St.
Great shoes and designer jeans
When you walk by Avanti in downtown San Luis Obispo, you’ll probably be captured by the selection of shoes staring at you through its window display. Heels, flats, sandals, wedges and various other shoes greet you as you walk into the boutique.
Whatever type of shoe you’re looking for, there’s a good chance Avanti has the perfect pair to complete your outfit.
However, for those sticking to a college budget, Avanti can be a little on the pricey side.
Avanti is located in downtown San Luis Obispo at 796 Higuera St.
Good sales
Crazy Jay’s always seems to have some kind of sale going on. At this clothing store, you will find almost everything you need at an affordable price. The store features a good selection of shoes, clothing and accessories that range from semi-formal to casual wear.
For heels you might only wear a few times or clothing that won’t break your bank, make a stop by Crazy Jay’s.
You can visit Crazy Jay’s at 767 Higuera St.
Boho chic look, home décor and gifts
Walking into Ambiance, you’ll notice its beautiful window displays and décor, its welcoming … ambiance (for lack of a better word) and beautiful selection of clothing.
If you’re looking for nice jeans and a great amount of Free People, you’ll find it at Ambiance. You will also find home décor, quirky gifts, unique books and bath and body care.
Ambiance can be a bit pricey, but the store regularly holds flash sales.
The store is also creating its own community. It holds special events throughout the year, such as trunk shows with champagne, treats and giveaways. Stay up-to-date with its sales and events on the store’s blog.
Visit Ambiance at its San Luis Obispo location at 737 Higuera St.
Even more boho chic
In addition to Ambiance, H&G Clothing is definitely worth checking out.
This store is full of cute clothing and beautiful accessories. H&G also carries candles, perfumes, home décor and bath and beauty products.
Stop in to shop at H&G Clothing at 778 Higuera St., Suite E.
Everything else
Forever 21 will always be a go-to store for clothing and accessories priced at a college student-friendly price. However, you may just find that the local boutiques carry clothing at around the same price point and are of better quality. Don’t limit yourself to Forever 21 and the risk of unintentionally matching with someone else at an event.
Forever 21 is located at 313 Madonna Rd.
Urban Outfitters is another wonderful store for just about everything. While its clothing is priced somewhat high, there are always good deals in the sale section of the store.
Shop Urban Outfitters at 962 Monterey St.
There are many other great local boutiques than the ones I’ve included here. Grab a coffee, some friends and shop around San Luis Obispo.
