The Cal Poly softball team won the opening game of the Blue-Green Rivalry 14-1 before dropping the final two in a three-game series against UC Santa Barbara over the weekend.
Freshman right-hander Sierra Hyland threw a complete game in the finale and gave up three hits, but UC Santa Barbara eked out the winning run in the fifth inning for a 2-1 game and series victory.
Hyland allowed three hits and gave up one run in Saturday’s series-opening win, while she went 5 for 5 at the plate. Her offensive production marked the highest single-game hit total for a Mustang since 1998, while Cal Poly equaled its season high with 15 hits in the game.
The Mustangs stranded seven baserunners in the low-scoring game 2 en route to a 2-0 loss. Junior lefty Chloe Wurst earned the loss, dropping her record to 3-7 on the season.
