Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) and PULSE are hosting “Buck the Stigma” this week in order to raise awareness about mental health. Activities such as Tuesday’s “De-stress fest” orĀ “Love your Selfie” day were held throughout the week.
Riley Nilsen, co-chair of Buck the Stigma, says events like this are important because it gets the conversation going.
“Everyone on campus is effected by mental health. One in four students are effected by mental illness, and so providing a stress-free environment for students to go to is very important for mental health,” Nielsen said. “And Buck the Stigma week and it also engages us in the dialogues with students about how we can eliminate those stigmas that are surrounding mental health.”
On Thursday, students gathered in the Julian A. McPhee University Union Plaza (UU) to ride mechanical bulls and “buck” the stigma surrounding mental health.
