There are some big shoes to fill on Cal Poly’s campus — those of Musty the Mustang.
The current Musty is looking to pass on the uniform to a new person.
Musty is required to follow a set list of rules, which range from not revealing his or her identity to never taking off the head while in public. The current Musty says there is not one specific personality trait required for the job.
“I’m completely opposite of what Musty is,” he said. “He’s more out there and more able to interact with people … even though he doesn’t talk, he still interacts with them. I’m more shy and kind of reserved, but it allows me to be someone else.”
Musty also has a long list of responsibilities, from rooting for multiple Cal Poly sports teams to dancing with the cheer team to traveling with the Cal Poly basketball team during their stint in the NCAA Tournament. You can also find him out and about greeting Cal Poly students for various events.
Musty tryouts are Friday, May 9 at 6 p.m. in Mott Athletic Center.
You can also “like” Musty on his Facebook page.
