More than 89 percent of Cal Poly students stood in favor of quarters in Thursday’s Student Advisory Vote put on by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI).
The vote, held by ASI to learn more about student opinion on the switch, drew 8,077 students and was possibly a Cal State University (CSU) record for turnout. Of that group — approximately 43.18 percent of the student body — 8.68 percent voted in favor of switching to semesters. The remaining 1.55 percent answered as undecided.
Following the results, the ASI Board of Directors will meet to put forth summary and a recommendation to hand to Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong, who is planning to meet with CSU Chancellor Timothy White on Wednesday.
“I am delighted with the strong turnout,” Armstrong wrote in an email statement to the Mustang Daily. “It shows how much Cal Poly students care and are engaged. This vote is another step in the process I committed to many months ago. It’s a good process, and I have learned a lot about the benefits of quarters and semesters.”
