The Cal Poly volleyball team (5-6, 0-1 Big West) fell in a heartbreaking fashion, losing on the road against Blue-Green rival UC Santa Barbara (6-6, 1-0). After capturing the opening two sets, the Mustangs could not finish off the Gauchos and dropped the remaining three sets in a 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-11 decision.
Cal Poly held UC Santa Barbara to a .251 hitting percentage, but could not come out with the victory. In the fourth set with Cal Poly leading 2-1, the Mustangs squandered a golden opportunity, giving up a 19-12 lead and eventually losing 25-23.
In the fifth and deciding set, the Mustangs had nothing left in the tank and the Gauchos capitalized with a .636 hitting percentage.
Cal Poly looks to bounce back when hosting UC Davis on Friday, Oct. 3 and UC Riverside on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Mott Athletics Center.
