A white van backed through an exterior wall at the Palm Theatre Thursday just before noon. The driver of the car was getting her ticket for the parking garage across the street when it went in reverse across Palm Street, through a bike rack and into the theatre, said Don Wallis, the parking garage attendant across the street.
Wallis said he did not hear the van until it hit the curb in front of the theatre. He then pressed a button in his booth to call police to the scene.
“I was yelling across the street to make sure no one was dead,” he said.
A police report issued Thursday said that there were no injuries.
Jim Dee, owner of the Palm Theatre, said there were about six police officers on the scene quickly after the accident.
Dee said that the hole won’t be fixed for about a week but plywood would be put up in the mean time. He added that it only caused one show to be cancelled.
“We’ll be open for the 4:15 show,” he said with an exasperated smile.
