The University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) met Jan. 31 in the University Union (UU) Room 219 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Chair of the University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) Karen Mesrobian reported:
- There are plans to extend UUAB outreach by encouraging board attendance at other Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) events.
Dwayne Brummett, the executive director’s representative reported:
- UUAB reviewed master plans for the remodel and renovation of the second floor in the UU Building. The plan was spearheaded in 2008 after suggestions from the UUAB, Student Government, Student Life and Leadership, ASI staff, student staff and focus groups. The project summary emphasized the need for new furniture, lighting and improved technological resources.
- At this point, the conference room infrastructure ha been improved and the upstairs restrooms were updated.
College of Engineering representative Jonathan Brophy reported:
- The climbing boulder manufactured for outside the Recreation Center is expected to be erected in early March.
- Poly Reps is getting two iPads and two iPhones to better manage and track its ongoing tours. The program expects to use QR Codes to help track how many daily tours are given and the pertaining information.
- Conference Rooms 216, 218, 219 and 220 will each be getting computers to display daily schedules and programs in the different rooms.
College of Science and Math representative Bill Grau reported:
- ASI is working with the Horticulture Department for plants inside the Recreation Center. They will be choosing and maintaining the plants in a Learn-By-Doing manner.
- Friday, Feb. 3, the memorial plaque for Carson Starkey will be updated to reflect the new “Aware Awake Alive” campaign. There will be a public ceremony held; all students are encouraged to attend.
- Poly Escapes is moving from the UU to the Recreation Center over spring break.
Joel Neel, university president’s representative reported:
- The Science Center is halfway completed and is being constructed on schedule.
ASI president’s designee Megan Wookey reported:
- The “Buck Starts Here” campaign began and people signed more dollar bills than expected.
- They are working on a 5k run teaming up with “Aware Awake Alive” to promote “We Go Together.”
- The student government Twitter was launched and can be followed at “@asistugovcp.”
- ASI is hoping to promote the use of reusable bags to educate students about sustainability on campus
College of Architecture and Environmental Design representative Bodie Bloyd reported:
- The CAED is working on a fundraiser for their metal shop to increase tool donations for participating students.
Board of Directors’ designee Jason Colobini reported:
- The Agricultural Showcase is Feb. 2 in the Farm Shop. It acts as a career fair for agriculture students and attracts major agriculture corporations.
- All funding has been allocated for campus clubs.
