The university will be taking the roof collapse at this morning’s St. Fratty’s Day party “very seriously,” university spokesperson Matt Lazier said in an email on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to working with local public safety, university officials will perform their own campus investigation to determine the cause of the incident and the appropriate response.
Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong and Vice President for Student Affairs Keith Humphrey issued a campuswide email after the event.
“This event raises significant concern about the judgment exercised by both the party organizers and attendees regarding the health and safety of themselves and others,” they wrote in the email. “Behavior like this has no place in San Luis Obispo and is counter to the expectation we have of Cal Poly students.”
The university is working with authorities to determine if any Cal Poly-affiliated groups were involved. If a greek life organization has connections to the event, Lazier said, the university “reserves the right to exercise additional options regarding the status of social fraternities and sororities.”
“Once we have all the facts, the university will respond swiftly and accordingly,” Lazier said in the email.
