Ever wonder what song that guy in front of you at Starbucks is mouthing the words to? Here’s your chance to find out. Welcome to Tuesday Tunes, Mustang News’ weekly posting on what music Cal Poly’s students find themselves grooving to. Next Tuesday (and every Tuesday following), we’ll be finding students with headphones and asking them what they’re listening to. To start, we’re checking out what the Mustang News editors are listening to.
J.J. Jenkins, editor-in-chief and business administration senior
“Brave Man’s Death” by J Roddy Walston and the Business
“J Roddy Walston and the Business is the business,” he said.
Carly Rickards, digital managing editor and journalism senior
“Bojangles” by Pitbull
“It gets my booty moving on the treadmill,” she said.
Sean Mcminn, digital managing editor and journalism senior
“Heart of a Girl” by The Killers
“I went to a concert this summer by The Killers,” he said. “I wanted to listen to this album this morning because it brought back memories from the concert — the wet grass, the booming speakers, the crazy light show and the fact that my voice wasn’t there the next day. It all came back to me.”
Stephan Teodosescu, sports editor and graduate student
“Spaceman (Carnage Festival Trap Remix)” by Hardwell
“I was at the baseball game a couple weeks ago, and it was Jordan Ellis’ walkup song, and I listened to it that night,” he said. “It’s been stuck in my head ever since.”
Jacob Lauing, news editor and journalism sophomore
“Into the Mirror” by Minus the Bear
“It’s just a really catchy song,” he said. “There are a lot of different layers instrumentally that I find really interesting. I like the lyrics a lot; it’s a great song to drive to.”
Kassi Luja, arts editor and journalism senior
“Waves” by Electric Guest
“It puts me in a good mood,” she said.
Katherine Benedict, multimedia editor and journalism freshman
“Shuggie” by Foxygen
“Foxygen is the revival of my inner-’60s Katherine,” she said. “I vibe them, and that’s the bottom line.”
Here’s the full playlist of all the editors’ choices, and check back every Tuesday for new additions from Cal Poly students.
