A large truck filled with marijuana crashed into the railroad overpass on Highland Drive this past Monday evening and was later stopped near Arroyo Grande.
“Cal Poly University Police received a call around 5 p.m. Monday, May 2, that a large truck had struck the railroad overpass at Highland Drive on campus and had subsequently left the scene,” university spokesperson Matt Lazier said in an email.
University Police Department (UPD) issued a be-on-the-lookout alert to local law enforcement, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) later located the truck outside of Arroyo Grande.
Driver James Mendaros, 20, was not arrested, but UPD suggested hit-and-run charges be filed against him.
UPD, CHP and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department are working together on the ongoing investigation.
