1. Nu Alpha Kappa to host ‘Hunger Games’-themed pageant to help child with leukemia
May the odds be ever in the favor of Nu Alpha Kappa’s 13 Miss Greek Universe contestants. Awarded funds from the event will go to support Nu Alpha Kappa advisor Erika Diaz Cota, whose son has been diagnosed with leukemia.
2. 74th Poly Royal Rodeo highlights Open House history
Saddle up, Mustangs! The Cal Poly rodeo team will host the 74th annual Poly Royal rodeo Friday and Saturday evenings on the rodeo grounds. Over 225 members will compete in 10 events.
3. Ronda Beaman selected as Grand Marshal for 2014 Open House
Ronda Beaman, a Cal Poly business administration lecturer, has been selected as Grand Marshal for Cal Poly’s 2014 Open House. “I have been practicing my parade waves, and I bought sequin leggings,” Beaman said.
4. Downtown Boba opens on Garden Street
This past weekend, boba lovers rejoiced with the opening of Downtown Boba on Garden Street. This is the second shop in San Luis Obispo that serves bubble tea.
5. Sierra Hyland ‘Just Throws’
Sierra Hyland, a freshman softball pitcher, has been making waves as she was recently nationally ranked sixth in strikeouts (196), ninth in victories (18), 10th in shutouts (7) and 40th in ERA (1.57).
