Update Monday, Oct. 30 4:06 p.m.:
According to the most recent updates on Patierno’s CaringBridge page, Patierno responded well to his “sedation vacation” yesterday, exhibiting responses to motion and reflex commands like squeezing his family members’ hands.
At 3:30p.m. today, his family reported that Patierno’s breathing tube was removed and he is now breathing on his own. His doctors plan to “reduce sedation to bring him out of the medically induced coma.”
A prayer vigil at the Sigma Nu fraternity was held last night for Patierno.
Update Saturday, Oct. 28 5:48 p.m.:
The student who fell from the second-floor of the Shasta residence hall has been identified as business administration freshman Parker Patierno.
Associate administrator at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Ron Yukelson stated that Patierno is in critical condition and being treated for at the intensive care unit.
According to a CaringBridge page created by Patierno’s family, Patierno suffered a brain injury and is in a medically-induced coma. He continues to be under sedation. Patierno’s neurosurgeon is “pleased with [his] progress” and “his doctors are optimistic.”
