I lived in a garage on Hathway for two years of my life. And by garage I mean a dingy converted-into-a-room kind of garage, and by Hathway – I clarify for all who care – I mean the behind the railroad tracks, lame-o Hathway no one cares about because it’s Hathway number two, Hathway.
That said, it was a time in my life without much consequence. Without much consequence I guess, except for the fact that my fate seemed to be crossed with a certain local music group come to be known as Still Time, formerly known as The New Longview, which is all so very confusing we should just drop it right now!
Onward with my story: For those two years of my life, I had the pleasure of spending endless nights jamming to a group of kids – my neighbors – who were yet to erupt onto mainstream musical charts as they played for friends and remained relatively underground within our own tight-knit, rock/reggae counterculture.
For the better part of those two years, I endured what I’d like to now coin the “Still Time formative years.”
Since the days spent jamming in the company of each other, boys have become men, five men in fact who have found their way into the hearts and minds of San Luis Obispo music lovers.
Meet the guys of Still Time: Dan, Chris, Nick, John and Paul. Five friends who collectively have emerged as one of the Central Coast’s finest kept gems.
Since forming in 2004, the guys of Still Time have kept extremely busy, selling out and packing venues that include The Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood, The Ventura Theatre, The Phoenix, Avila Beach Bowl, King King Club, Moe’s Alley, Sacramento Brew, Downtown Brewing Company, The Graduate and our own local Avila Beer Festival.
Bringing together a dynamic mélange of reggae, rock, and funk beats, sprinkled of course with a little bit of fun and a lot of hard work, Still Time is a truly a talented band to behold. Sometimes I’m even quoted as saying, “Still Time over Resination, for sure.” As the saying goes: in with the new, out with the old. Gear up folks, we can have ourselves here a good ol’ fashioned battle of the bands: Still Time vs. Resination.
Although I don’t know these guys personally, I do however feel a personal connection that has formed and blossomed each day since my neighbors moved into their house on Hathway. Now, each time I see them around town or at a gig I smile to myself and think, “Wow, they have no clue who I am. . I am your old neighbor and I know the musical depths from which you came.” But now, you have to make your connections, you have to write your own story.
