Head volleyball coach Jon Stevenson was relieved of his coaching duties on Sunday and assistant coach Caroline Walters will take over as interim head coach, according to a press release.
“Caroline Walters has the team’s confidence, knows the game exceptionally well, has proven to be a good recruiter and will be a good role model for our student-athletes,” athletics director Don Oberhelman said in a release. “She will do a fine job for our team this season.”
The Mustang Daily attempted to contact three athletes for comment, but each went to voicemail.
This news comes a day after a twitter account registered in the name of Stevenson tweeted on Saturday that he had “no access” to his team. The Mustangs were competing in the La Quinta Inn & Suites Invite in Utah this weekend.
“Watching the team that I built, trained, and prepared lose to inferior teams i.e. santa clara and university of utah but I have no access,” he tweeted. Adding, “look for the truth (when the time is right) on blogger.com. This is sad, sad, sad. I feel horribly for the kids. Folks can call anytime …”
The Mustang Daily attempted to call Stevenson, but he did not pick up and his mailbox was full. He has not responded to a text message either.
Past tweets suggest that the account does belong to Stevenson.
The Mustangs lost to Michigan in straight sets on Saturday after falling to Utah Valley earlier in five sets. A message was also left in the voicemail of an athlete who has not responded. The Mustang Daily texted another athlete who has not responded.
