Update 5:24 p.m.
The suspect in custody, Austin Ross, has previously been arrested by Grover Beach police for possessing nearly three ounces of methamphetamine packaged for sale, according to a San Luis Obispo Tribune report published in late April.
On April 23, police pulled over a vehicle Ross was driving for failing to stop while entering a highway. After finding hashish in the car, the officer searched the vehicle and found 83.8 grams of methamphetamine packaged for sales and other paraphernalia often used when selling drugs, according to the Tribune.
Ross was then booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail, but released soon after.
Update 5:05 p.m.
The suspect has been identified as Austin Ross, according to Lt. Jeff Smith. Details about the suspect’s criminal history and hometown were not immediately available.
Update 3:48 p.m.
The suspect has been taken away in the Sheriff’s vehicle and SWAT is leaving the scene.
According to a PolyAlert, police activity on Stenner Street and in the City of San Luis Obispo is complete and it is safe to enter the area.
Update 3:35 p.m.
SWAT has arrested the suspect, who was wearing a mask and a flannel shirt.
Update 3:24 p.m.
The SWAT vehicle has moved from the street to the driveway of the residence where the suspect is barricaded.
The suspect, a male, has a warrant issued out of Pismo Beach, SLOPD Lt. Jeff Smith told the Tribune. The suspect is not a student, Smith said.
Update 3:01 p.m.
The suspect barricaded himself inside what’s believed to be his girlfriend’s apartment when the San Luis Obispo Gang Task Force was attempting to arrest a man on warrants for a possession of a firearm and stolen vehicle, according to KSBY.
There are at least 25 college-aged civilians in the area and approximately 15 officials, including officers from SLOPD and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Citizens have been asked to avoid the 100 block of Stenner Street, where the San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD) and a regional SWAT team are handling a barricaded suspect call.
The person is a wanted suspect, and SLOPD has information that led them to believe the suspect is armed, according to SLOPD Capt. Keith Storton.
They are trying to contact the suspect and resolve the situation as peacefully as possible, Storton said. There are approximately 10 people on the scene.
