Students can register to vote and get a free donut while they are at it at SLODoCo until noon on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The 24-hour voter registration drive was organized by Mayor Heidi Harmon’s re-election campaign, but welcome anyone to register, regardless of their political preference.
“It’s pretty apparent that no matter what side we stand on, there are policies that have a deep impact on people’s lives,” Harmon’s campaign manager Quinn Brady said. “It’s our responsibility and right to show up and vote.”
The booth is run by volunteers in two-hour shifts.
Volunteer and political science senior Andrea Amavisca said students should vote locally as part of a duty for future students.
“The student population will always be here, even if we won’t be,” Amavisca said.
SLODoCo business manager Brandon Miller said the donut shop welcomed the campaign because a lot of people do not know how to register to vote.
“We think it’s very important that people, especially young people, get out and get their voices heard,” Miller said.
