Even Chris Gocong was a freshman once. As the latest Cal Poly draftee embarks on his first year in the NFL, a whole new crop of students are readying themselves for the life of a college athlete – Cal Poly style. Here’s a look at some, but by no means all, of the promising incoming Poly Players looking to hone their skills and show their talent on Mustang turf.
Mustang ranks best sports films
Sports movies are made to capture what makes sports great: teamwork, dedication, perseverance and pride. With such intangibles to work with, there is no shortage of excellent sports movies. Granted, there are some bad ones, as anyone who has seen “Rocky V” or any of the “Major League” sequels can attest to.

The Cup hath runneth over, see you in four years
What did you say about my mom? Honestly, put yourself in Zinedine Zidane shoes, I mean cleats. What would you do? We don’t have exact details on what was said, but you can imagine. “Your mom likes French champagne!” Or something of that nature.
Italian defender Marco Materazzi has denied insulting the French midfielder’s mother, but you can’t trust the Azzuri, anyone familiar with Roberto Baggio’s mullet, or Mussolini knows that.

Tantrums and “open mouth, insert foot” moments are becoming synonymous with baseball. Most of the time it’s Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, but occasionally someone else steps up to the plate.
Although Guillen is in the spotlight for his most recent actions, (calling Chicago Sun-Times reporter Jay Mariotti a “fag” after Mariotti criticized his handling of a young pitcher), he isn’t the founder of rude outbursts and politically incorrectness.
Visiting the house that Ruth built
It was overcast, wet, humid, and a little too sticky for my taste, but I was not about to be deterred by a muggy, summer afternoon as I exited the D train into the Bronx: the New York Yankees’ turf. Go crazy for the Cup, America
With the World Cup upon us, I think I know why Americans do not like football.er, soccer, no football. I intend to keep an international tone throughout this piece, since we seem to be failing miserably as a country in that department.
First off, Americans love scoring, unless you are watching the heralded Brazil versus the Pleasanton Ballistic under-7 match-up, you are not going to see much of it.
Carolina takes first Cup in seven-game thriller
Canada’s hockey teams were able to do it again. No, not win the prized Stanley Cup, but instead lose it in seven games for the second season in a row.
