The fatal crash that claimed 18 lives of the 1960 Cal Poly football team will receive an honorary induction into the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend.
A private ceremony will take place Friday to dedicate the new Mustang Memorial Plaza.
The plaza is 15,000 square feet and will honor the members of the team who lost their lives in the Oct.

SAN JOSE – No matter how many times the Cal Poly football team’s defense bailed it out Saturday, the Mustangs’ offense never got off the ground in a 17-7 loss at San Jose State.
Cal Poly (3-1) committed four turnovers, fumbled four times and was just 2 for 13 on third-down conversion attempts in front of 15,684 fans at Spartan Stadium.
One goal in the 97th minute was enough for the Mustangs.

The No. 20-ranked Cal Poly volleyball team snapped UC Santa Barbara’s 16-match home winning streak Saturday evening at the Thunderdome, claiming the Big West Conference opener for both clubs 30-15, 26-30, 32-30, 30-16. With the win Cal Poly inproved to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
I’ve been at Cal Poly for two years now and the lack of interest in Cal Poly athletics is astounding to me.
This is a very active campus. There are constantly people jogging, working out at the Recreation Center, hiking up Bishop Peak and so on. Intramural sports are pretty big at Cal Poly as well.
Many of Cal Poly’s athletic teams are headed for success this fall. Get ready – this is just the beginning of an action-packed quarter.
Cross Country
After winning the Big West Conference for the third straight year in 2005, the men’s cross country team is looking for a fourth in 2006.
His team had just dismantled Division II Fort Lewis 44-0 in its season opener.
