NCAA Tournament wait finally over for Mustangs

Cal Poly volleyball head coach Jon Stevenson feels his team has had its best week of practice all season.

The Mustangs host Michigan at 8 p.m. today in an NCAA Tournament first-round match in Mott Gym. It is the first time Cal Poly will host a sub-regional since 1989.

Poly wrestling team heads to Las Vegas for tournament

The Cal Poly wrestling team will test its mettle as it competes in Las Vegas today and tomorrow at the 25th annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational.

The team has been hard at work preparing for the tournament, and coach John Azevedo is confident the Mustangs “should do very well, go there and place.

Mustang men's hoops squad pounds DIII Occidental, 81-62

The Cal Poly men’s basketball team provided 1,289 fans at Mott Gym on Wednesday night with an aggressive and overall dominating performance in an 81-62 victory against Division III Occidental.

The Mustangs (4-2) never allowed the Tigers (2-4) to take a lead.

Lions hand Mustangs 64-62 loss

Turnovers and a failure to secure rebounds down the stretch proved costly for the Cal Poly women’s basketball team in a 64-62 loss to visiting Loyola Marymount in a hotly contested nonconference game Tuesday night in Mott Gym.

The Mustangs (3-3) led 56-54 with 2 minutes, 24 seconds to play when guard Kyla Howell’s turnover allowed the Lions (4-3) to tie the game and eventually take the lead for good.

Poly prepares for NCAA Tournament

The Cal Poly volleyball team hosts Michigan at 8 p.m. Friday in an NCAA Tournament first-round match. It is the first time Cal Poly has hosted a regional since 1989.

The Mustangs, who are ranked 14th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association College Sports TV poll, are seeded 15th in the 64-team field and enter the tournament 22-5 overall after winning the Big West Conference title with a 13-1 record.

Stock rises in young Cal Poly men's basketball team

Mustang women's field hockey club team takes league title

The Cal Poly field hockey club team managed to win a third straight championship Nov. 18 in Davis after playing a doubleheader in which both games went into overtime.

The Mustangs entered the playoff game ranked third out of the five colleges in the league.

Poly football team returns at least 12 starters, but knows offense must improve in 2007

After a 55-0 win over Savannah State in their Senior Day season finale Nov. 18, Cal Poly football players – both on the way out and returning – predicted a bright future for the program. Coming off a 7-4 season, the Mustangs can return up to seven players on offense and five on defense who started Nov.

I-AA to NFL: A growing trend
