Shotwell: The Eagle has landed

Kyle Shotwell, it seemed, had played his last down with Chris Gocong when the two were Cal Poly football teammates in 2005. But the NFL has a funny way of reuniting people. At around 1 p.m. Tuesday, Shotwell received a call from his agent, Ryan Tollner, who told the rookie linebacker what he had wanted to hear since being waived by the Oakland Raiders on Sept.

So much to be thankful for!

Not being with my family and friends for the holidays has really helped me reflect on all aspects of life. These times have helped me really put things into perspective and let me realize the people who are important in my life. It’s helped me ponder where I started, where I am and helped me stay focused on where I am going.

A fresh beginning for Cal Poly's Rowing Club

Throughout the 1980s and ranging into the late ’90s, the Cal Poly Rowing Club was a strong and vibrant entity existing harmoniously within the campus community.

Unfortunately, the former board and its members experienced a series of incalculable setbacks during the mid- to late-1990s, such as alleged misappropriation of funds, as well as an outstanding ASI loan of thousands of dollars.

Wrestling with the Titans

The Cal Poly wrestling team sees Pac-10 action today at Titan Gym as it takes on Cal State Fullerton, a quite familiar foe following the Cal State Fullerton Open on Nov. 18.

Although the Mustangs competed in a tournament setting at the open, they matched up against several Fullerton wrestlers, which made it safe for head coach John Azevedo to say that today “is going to be a close duel; (Fullerton has) a solid team.

Bittersweet accolades for men's soccer

The Cal Poly soccer team’s star forward David Zamora was named the 2007 Big West Freshman of the Year, while five other Mustangs received recognition.

Landing on the All-Big West First Team with Zamora was senior defender K.J.

Sun Devils melt the Mustangs, 75-41

Many sized up the Cal Poly men’s basketball team’s game at Arizona State on Monday night as a forecast for how the Mustangs might fare Dec. 22 at USC.

Well, foul weather may be on the way.

Cal Poly was drilled 75-41 in a nonconference loss in which it shot only 25.

Mustangs head to Ohio for first round

The Cal Poly volleyball team will make its second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance as the field’s 16th-seeded program on Friday evening against Xavier. The tournament selection committee drew the Big West Conference champions into the Ohio University Regional with Cal Poly opening postseason play against Xavier, a program the Mustangs fell to earlier this season.

Round up: Women's hoops 1-2 over break

LOS ANGELES — The Cal Poly women’s basketball program’s first game against UCLA in nearly 32 years produced a less than desirable result on Nov. 20 as the Mustangs dropped a 107-83 decision to the Bruins at Pauley Pavilion.

Junior forward Lisa McBride led Cal Poly in scoring for the third time in four games this season, but the Mustangs, despite holding an early lead, surrendered 52 first-half points.

Thirteen Mustangs land on All-Great West Teams

Led by repeat first-team selections Ramses Barden and Stephen Field, a total of 13 Cal Poly players have been named to the 2007 All-Great West Football Conference teams.

Barden, a junior wide receiver, and Field, a junior offensive lineman, landed on the first-team offense for the third consecutive year.
