The sports world is full of clichés, especially when it comes to football. Sayings like, “this game is going to be won in the trenches,” or “it’s a game of field position,” can be beaten to death while watching a football game.

Over the past month, which has included countless bowl and NFL games, announcers such as Joe Buck and Keith Jackson wear you out with these clichés.

Playoffs would be a real payoff

As I sat down to watch the BCS National Championship between Ohio State and LSU last night, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed that no matter how great the outcome, the result would still leave me unsatisfied.

Does anyone in the country – fans and so-called experts (based on the analysts’ predictions of bowl games this year, their knowledge has been seriously called into question – pardon me for digressing) alike – think that these were the two best teams in the country? I don’t think so, especially not in certain parts of California, Georgia and West Virginia.

Mustangs still looking for offensive balance

Although the Cal Poly men’s basketball team has struggled shooting the ball from virtually everywhere on the floor, the Mustangs got their first Big West Conference win Saturday, topping Long Beach State 64-52 at Mott Gym.
