The Cal Poly track and field team swept visiting UC Santa Barbara in a dual on Saturday afternoon, with the men’s squad winning 121-79 and the women’s 121-78.

Wildflower begins this weekend

People have been partying at Wildflower for 26 years, but does everybody know what they’re celebrating?

As one of the largest triathlons worldwide, the Wildflower races, or Avia Wildflower Triathlons, held at Lake San Antonio, draw upward of 7,500 athletes and 30,000 spectators and volunteers annually – including 1,200 volunteers from Cal Poly, according to sponsorship coordinator Colleen Bousman.

Blalock, Wong headed to NCAA Championships

Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong, both sophomores from the Cal Poly women’s tennis team, will compete as a doubles tandem at the NCAA Championships in late May, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Their trip to the championships, which will be held May 21 through May 26 at the Michael D.

Mustangs avenge earlier loss to Cal, win 8-2 at home

The Cal Poly baseball team scored three times and came within a home run of hitting for the cycle in the second inning on its way to an 8-2 victory over No. 16 Cal on Wednesday night at Baggett Stadium.

The final score wasn’t indicative of how tight the game actually was for the Mustangs, who snapped a three-game losing skid and avenged a 10-8 loss after being ahead 7-1 in Berkeley on April 22.

Olowolafe to compete with Women's National A2 Team

Sometimes it pays to be defiant. Just ask Dominique Olowolafe.

The middle blocker for the Cal Poly women’s volleyball team has a “refuse to lose” attitude that allowed her to shine last season as a freshman.

In late March, Olowolafe landed a spot on this year’s United States Women’s National A2 Team, the elite training squad below the women’s national team itself.

Cal Poly women's water polo team heads to nationals

The Cal Poly women’s water polo club team is heading to Portland, Ore. Thursday to compete in the national championship tournament. The Mustangs have won three national titles in the past five years and are looking to claim another one.

They recently defeated UCLA to win the Pacific Coast Championship at UC San Diego and have played teams from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, including USC and Pepperdine.

Phase one of Rec Center expansion underway

Students will soon be able to use the upper fields of the Sports Complex year round, rain or shine, thanks to new synthetic turf being installed later this year.

The replacement of natural grass with synthetic turf is expected to be completed this fall, according to Associated Students Inc.

Wrestling coach wins national title

When Matt Azevedo looked up, he wasn’t quite sure what was going on.

“The ref blew the whistle, and it happened so fast I don’t think I even really realized what had happened,” Azevedo said. “I looked up and realized the ref had signaled that I had gotten the pin, and looked to the crowd and saw my family and friends just standing up going crazy, so I just immediately threw my arms up, and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life.
