Day soars to new height, Olympic 'A' standard
Sharon Day finally found what she was looking for – or more specifically, the height.
The Cal Poly senior cleared 6 feet, 4 _ inches in the women’s high jump Saturday at the Big West Conference Championships at Cal State Northridge’s Matador Track Complex, not only winning the event, but meeting the Olympic “A” standard, making her dreams of competing at the 2008 Summer Games more of a reality.

Mustangs swept by Long Beach State
Despite pulling within a run in the eighth inning, the Cal Poly baseball team could get no closer during its Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Baggett Stadium, falling 3-2 to Long Beach State, which completed a three-game, Big West Conference series sweep.
Cal Poly (23-30, 7-14) first got on the scoreboard and contributed to what would become the final margin when sophomore designated hitter Luke Yoder sent a two-RBI home run to left field.

Cal Poly cycles through six pitchers, loses
For the second game in a row, the Cal Poly baseball team used six pitchers in a loss, as it fell 8-5 to Pepperdine in a non-conference game at Baggett Stadium on Tuesday night. Five of the Waves’ scores came in a decisive third inning, which was opened with catcher Trent Diedrich being hit by a pitch and rightfielder Donald Brown drawing a walk.
Day sets heptathlon record
Cal Poly senior Sharon Day broke the Big West Conference heptathlon record while winning the title Saturday afternoon at Cal State Northridge.
Day’s 5,642 points not only earned her a third career individual title at the conference meet and automatically qualified at the NCAA Championship level, but edged Idaho’s Manuela Kurrat’s 2005 conference total of 5,614.
