Women’s basketball: Mustangs smash Fullerton in rout

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team erased the specter of an ugly loss early in the conference schedule by beating Cal State Fullerton 72-61 on Saturday night in Mott Gym to win their sixth consecutive game.

“We felt like our game at Fullerton was an embarrassment,” Cal Poly head coach Faith Mimnaugh said.

Men’s basketball Cal Poly 75, Cal State Fullerton 72 Cal Poly junior guard Lorenzo Keeler scored a career-high 29 points to help the Mustangs (6-14, 3-7 Big West Conference) edge past Cal State Fullerton on Saturday night in Titan Gym. Keeler hit 10-of-12 from the field including six 3-pointers in breaking his old career-high of 25 points that he set last month at Pacific.

Cal Poly softball team ready to regain top form

The Cal Poly women’s softball team will open their season against San Diego State at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at UCLA on Friday.

Coming back from last year’s third place Big West finish and 24-22 overall record, head coach Jenny Condon said the team has been preparing since the end of last season, and looks strong going into their first tournament.

Mustangs roll to fifth consecutive victory

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team defended UC Irvine 61-51 on Thursday night in Mott Gym for their fifth-straight victory.

The Mustangs (14-7, 6-3 Big West Conference) led 20-18 at intermission in a game in which both teams struggled with their shooting out of the gate.

Mustangs cruise past Anteaters

Cal Poly women’s basketball team extended it’s winning streak to five as the rallied behind sophomore guard Kristin Santiago and junior forward Becky Tratter to beat UC Irvine 61-50 Thursday in Mott Gym.

Coming into Thursday’s game, the Anteaters (5-17, 2-7) were having some success of their own, winning two of their last three contests and getting their first two conference wins.

Walsh introduces first recruiting class

Mustangs fall to Cal State Northridge

It’s back to the road for the Mustangs (5-13, 2-6 Big West Conference) after losing to Cal State Northridge (9-10, 6-3), in a lopsided 79-68 nationally televised game Saturday night.

The Mustangs came into Mott Gym with two consecutive away victories, but were put away by the Matadors led by Josh Jenkins’ 18 points.

Women’s tennis | Cal Poly 7, Cal State Northridge 0

Cal Poly had a dominating performance at home against the Cal State Northridge on Saturday with a decisive 7-0 victory.

The Mustangs (2-0, 1-0 Big West Conference) won all six singles matches and two out of three doubles matches. At No. 1 singles, junior Suzie Matzenauer easily defeated Evgeniya Vertesheva 6-2, 6-0.
