Global warming may be just a lot of hot air

Scientists have been trying to warn Americans about the impending doom of climate change since the late 1800s. The paradox is that they cannot decide whether the earth is cooling off or warming up.

An article titled “Fire and Ice,” published by the Business and Media Institute, outlines four major swings in media hysteria concerning global climate change.

Use what you learned in kindergarten

To know how to read seems simple enough; I can still remember learning the letters of the alphabet in kindergarten. However, in third grade we had what was called a victory drill book, which I hated with a passion. This book was supposed to teach us to work on our pronunciation of words.

Hydrogen: The next big thing

In the last few years, the future of the American energy industry has been a subject of constant discussion. Those with their ears to the ground have probably heard that hydrogen is expected to play an integral role in powering the America of tomorrow. President Bush recently allocated funds for hydrogen fuel cell research.

Campus bikers experienced and capable

Wednesday’s staff commentary about the “danger” of walking around campus due to bikes is bogus.

First of all, the primary bike-riding contingent on campus are well-experienced mountain and road bikers, the wheelmen and triathletes (and those of us who ride for fun) typically have years of experience riding.

Whatever your mode of transportation, be respectful

I bike from the corner of Laurel and Johnson to campus everyday, so I guess people would label me as a “biker.” I’m not one of those mean bikers that everyone has been writing about though. I really do try to stay in the “friendly” zones (the bike lanes and the right side of the road according to Ms.

Polls misleading and confusing

Polls misleading and confusing

Your poll on Jurassic Park IV (although the responses appear to be written in college sarcasm), was very misleading. Being a father of a 10 year old who is very much a dinosaur/monster fanatic, we watch the movies often. We just viewed the first installment Friday night.

How to Survive: The Freshman 15

College is here. You’re busy making new friends, hanging out with old ones, battling large amounts of homework from the first few weeks of classes. The last thing on your mind is your waistline.

Now, it is a few weeks into the quarter, you get up for an early class and pick out a pair of jeans you got back home.

How to be a gangsta rapper

Normally, I would never want to censor myself. I mean who really would? However, it is necessary for me to do so every time I go home to the Bay Area. This censoring isn’t just because I swear constantly, but rather the music that is usually playing in my car.

Intimacy more important than dating

I whole-heartedly agree with Ms. Pearson and the others who have voiced their support for dating … to a point.

To all the guys out there, man up and tell a girl you like her instead of going the wimp’s way and leaving it for her to figure out.

And girls, stop with the vague hints and clues; if the guy you like won’t ask you out, do it yourself.

Bush ignored real threats

In response to Matt Bushman’s political commentary, “You can’t hug your children with nuclear arms”:

Iraq was not the biggest threat to our nation’s security, as we’ve known for over two years that Saddam Hussein did not have any weapons of mass destruction.

Bike rage is all the rage on campus

When I transferred to Cal Poly last fall, one of the first things I said was that I was going to get run over by a bicycle before I graduated. Although it hasn’t happened yet, I still think I am correct.

Now, don’t get clever and purposely try to find me to run me down.
