Scott Kirkish didn’t hesitate when asked who exactly is considered a Mustang Maniac.
In fact, the president of Cal Poly’s student spirit group didn’t have to name anyone in particular.
“Officially, every Cal Poly student is in the group,” said Kirkish, who has guided Mustang Maniacs since the fall of 2005.
Cal Poly’s Women’s Programs and Career Services will be hosting the two-part “Women Career Discussion Series,” starting today from 11 a.m. to noon. It will be held in the Women’s Center, in the University Union room 217. The event is free and open to all faculty, staff and students.
Streets lined with classic cars, food and game booths and live music are all things that trigger memories of car shows. This weekend, Pismo had its own show to make some memories for the people of the city.

As traffic congestion and lack of adequate parking continues to grow at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo County aims to ease the overcrowding this week. Today marks the beginning of Rideshare Week – the county’s annual campaign to promote carpooling and alternative means of transportation.
Edgar Richard Viernes, an electrical engineering junior, died Friday as a result of a car accident on Foothill Boulevard near O’Connor Way. He is the fifth Cal Poly student to die in the last three months.
“He was just a great person, really easy-going,” said Alex Aldama, an electrical engineering senior who was friends with Viernes.

Streeter Seidell: Yeah, I’m the front page editor for College Humor which means I take care of all the updates on the main page and I choose which Web sites to hot link among other little things here.
A local group and clothing stores around San Luis Obispo are getting together for a fashion show this Sunday to raise money for AIDS support and awareness.
Fusion, a male gay and bisexual support group comprised mostly of Cal Poly students, will host the event at the Veterans Hall, on the corner of Mill and Grand streets.
San Luis Obispo is turning 150 years old and the community is invited to join the celebration.
The grand finale of the yearlong sesquicentennial commemoration takes place tonight at Farmers’ Market.
“It’s a celebration and recognition of San Luis Obispo as a community,” Steering Committee member June McIvor said.
Bombarded by brain-stretching midterms and mountainous piles of homework, many Cal Poly students now in their third week of school have all but forgotten the unfortunate event that claimed the life of would-be freshman Enrique Jimenez during orientation week.
Incumbent Congresswoman Lois Capps paid a visit to the Cal Poly campus Tuesday. The democrat who represents California’s 23rd Congressional district (which includes portions of Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties) is campaigning for re-election in November’s elections.
The Women’s Shelter Program of San Luis Obispo County and a team of art and design students combined efforts to generate this month’s “Beat the Punch” campaign, a violence preventative program soliciting the alliance of the community’s young men.
“The point is to create a dialogue on campus and in the community about domestic violence prevention,” said Lindsey Dunn of the Women’s Shelter Program and “Beat the Punch” project coordinator.
