Society of Women Engineers works on Disney coasters

Several roller coasters at Disneyland just got a little bit smoother, thanks to Cal Poly’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

A team of roughly 24 SWE students recently took home first place and $5,000 at the national Boeing Team Tech Competition by designing a very useful tool for the world-famous amusement park.

Alum crafts 'green' surfboard fins

One Cal Poly alum has taken “green” to a new level by developing and launching a new San Luis Obispo based company, Fluid Earth. Henry Swales, a 26 year-old, 2005 aerospace engineering graduate, has advanced the world of surfing by creating a new sustainable surfboard fin made from plant-based resin.

The episode premiered on the History Channel on Monday and will have its last scheduled showing at 7 p.m. Saturday.
