The Vines to Wines Club is hosting its sixth annual Cal Poly Wine Festival this weekend, in what has become one of the premier wine events in the area. The event, which began in 2003 as a senior project, will take place at the Santa Margarita Ranch from 1 to 4 p.

The mercury is rising and the sun is lingering in the sky a little longer each day, which can mean only one thing: The summer festival season is upon us.

All around the country, music lovers are bracing themselves to face sweltering heat, $4 bottled water and epic B.

Put yourself in the “Star Wars” universe, but more than 125 years after “Return of the Jedi.”

Now picture these characters: Luke Skywalker’s great, great grandson; a feared bounty hunter who contributes to the eradication of Jedi in a post-apocalyptic setting; a space pirate who runs with two like-minded gangsters; a drifting drug addict who forgets his problems by using death sticks; and the last remaining Skywalker who could give hope to a Sith-crippled galaxy if only he wasn’t jaded by his traumatic childhood.

Associated Students Inc. Events is hosting a “night of laughter” with comedian Owen Smith tonight, the first show in what will eventually be a series of comedy acts to be featured at Cal Poly.

“A significant portion of requests from the student population have been asking for pure entertainment acts,” said Michele Curro, program coordinator for ASI.

The fact that you are reading this is a minor miracle. You see, this “new” record from the Raveonettes, “Lust Lust Lust,” actually came out more than two months ago, and the album preceding it, “Pretty in Black,” was as trite and redundant an affair as Columbia ever put out, the musical equivalent of a Tim Allen movie.

Eloquent poets, gifted songwriters, melodic vocalists. Of the many available terms, talented musicians best describes the guys of the current Three Headliner Tour.

Lee Coulter, Jakob Martin and Aaron Bowen are the three multi-talented musicians involved with the tour now rolling up and down the Golden State.

“Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way,” or so commented Leo Tolstoy in the classic opening of “Anna Karenina.” Regardless of whether this quote is true, it certainly seems apropos when considering the Preaker family, the disturbed clan at the heart of Gillian Flynn’s debut book, “Sharp Objects.

NOFX is a band that goes against the norm. Its members don’t give many interviews and the group has never had a music video play on MTV or VH1. “NOFX: Backstage Passport” first aired on Fuse TV at 10 p.m. last Tuesday.

The eight episodes make up a docu-series that follows the legendary punk band on its travels around the globe.

It’s a TV network’s nightmare come true: millions of people watching its content, new and old, without paying a dime and only sitting through single 30-second advertisements.

And yet it was the networks themselves that made it all happen.

In case you hadn’t received the memo, cable television is going out of style.

Where my nerds at? Stand up. We’ve got new Batman and Superman movies coming out; “Iron Man” comes out next month; there’s a Hulk movie coming out that may not suck; and studios are making a new Street Fighter movie, a G.I. Joe movie, a Justice League movie, an Avengers movie, a live-action Star Wars TV show and a new Star Trek movie.

After a tedious judging process and listening to countless audition CDs, director of bands William V. Johnson, symphony conductor David Arrivée, and director of jazz studies Paul Rinzler have chosen 180 high school students from all over California to play together at the All-State Festival Concert during Open House weekend.
