The search for a missing airplane resumed along the Kern and Santa Barbara counties Monday after weather limited their efforts over the weekend.
Chris Kidd, 45, took off from an airstrip near Taft Saturday morning in a homemade red and white Harmon aircraft with the intention of checking on his ranch near Cuyuma which is 13 miles away, authorities said. Kidd’s family reported him missing when he didn’t return after a few hours.
The search and rescue effort is being conducted by the civil air patrol. Lt. Col. Steve Asche said that they were in the process of “grid-searching” his likely route because no emergency signal had been received.
“We are asking that anyone who may have been in the area and seen something to call in, because right now it is like searching for a needle in a haystack,” Asche said.
