Jeffrey D. Armstrong will be the new Cal Poly president beginning Feb. 1, 2011, according to a press release by California State University.
The announcement was made today by the California State University Board of Trustees following Armstrong’s visit to the university and San Luis Obispo Dec. 2.
Armstrong, the current dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and professor of Animal Science at Michigan State University, was one of three candidates that visited the school from Nov. 1 to Dec. 2.
Armstrong will take over for Interim President Robert Glidden who filled the presidential void following former president Warren Baker’s retirement in July. The presidential search committee, which formed in May, initally interviewed Sona K. Andrews, Carlo Montemagno and Steven R. Angle for the position. But following the Chancellor’s recommendation that Cal Poly begin the search again, a new pool of candidates was formed and Glidden filled the position.
