The Golden Horseshoe isn’t the only honor Cal Poly football brought back to campus this week. Root Sports named senior cornerback Bijon Samoodi the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Samoodi helped the Mustangs beat the Aggies with one interception, six solo tackles and one fumble recovery. The fumble recovery was key in bringing the Golden Horseshoe back to San Luis Obispo.
UC Davis was rallying from an 11-point deficit when senior defensive tackle Sullivan Grosz stripped the ball and Samoodi scooped it up. This led to a Cal Poly touchdown and sealed the Mustangs’ victory.
“It makes me sleep better at night when I feel I can have a corner out there that can play man-to-man all day,” defensive coordinator Josh Brown said. “I think it would be hard to find another corner in the conference that can cover as good as he can.”
Samoodi is an Anaheim, Calif. native.
