To teach potentially life-saving skills, Safer is hosting a free self-defense workshop Saturday.
The program has had a poor turnout in the past, but Safer coordinator Christina Kaviani hopes more people will sign up this time. Though students and their parents often express interest in self-defense classes, she said, Safer has been unable to get people to go.
The workshop is helpful because it teaches students to protect themselves against any type of physical assault, she said.
There are two workshops per quarter. The first for winter quarter is Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon in the martial arts room in the Recreation Center. The second is March 11 from 8:15 to 10:15 p.m. in studio 3 of the Recreation Center.
