I really have enjoyed a lot of the required courses, but I have to take electives now. This is where I get frustrated. I am not allowed to take electives in journalism, even though the broadcast and public relations core coursework is vastly different than editorial’s.
I understand the reason behind taking electives, and I agree they are necessary. But it appears as though all the things I’m interested in are now available to majors only or don’t count.
I want to get out of taking only journalism classes, but like everyone else has probably noticed, it appears as though classes are just disappearing at Cal Poly. Only two sections offered here, one class at 7 p.m. there and a majority of the other classes (my two preferred areas to use my electives are graphic communication and art and design) are only open to majors, period.
On top of that, there are several Mustang Daily-oriented obligations that bar me from taking some other awesome classes (i.e. the Alfred Hitchcock film class).
That being said, I am curious to see if the looming tuition increases improve this obvious lack of classes. For the sake of Cal Poly students’ class schedules, I really hope it does.
Now that dead week is upon us, I’m sorry for the blast from the past about registration. I hope others fared better than I did, especially if they used a priority. Thankfully, I only have two quarters left, but after seeing registration go down the way it did this quarter, I’m glad I will only have to deal with that one more time.
