San Luis Obispo is calling scientists, engineers, crafters, performers and artists to participate in the second annual San Luis Obispo Mini Maker Faire.
According to the event’s website, it’s a place for makers to “get together and share their passions and ideas.” More than 2,000 people attended the 2013 faire, the website said.
Registration for the faire ends Friday. The all-ages event will take place May 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Mission Plaza.
Maker booths will feature demonstrations and hands-on activities, such as do-it-yourself science and technology and exhibits on rockets and robots, alternative energy, green tech, music and local food, as well as a featured event from the Cal Poly Science Café, according to the website.
The Mini Maker Faire is the offspring of the Maker Faire, which will be held in San Mateo May 17-18. The faire began in 2005 and was put on by the people of MAKE and CRAFT magazines, the website said. Today, Detroit, Kansas City, Newcastle (United Kingdom), Rome, Oslo and Tokyo all host Maker Faires with 200 or more makers.
The Faire is co-produced by multiple organizations in San Luis Obispo, including the SLO Museum of Art (SLOMA), Cal Poly, iFixit, SLO MakerSpace and Sm(ART) Studio as well as faculty from Cuesta College’s Fine Arts Department and mentors from an Atascadero robotics team called the Greybots, according to the website.
