Graphic communication associate professor Brian Lawler was struck by a vehicle on California Boulevard around 8 a.m. Monday while riding his bicycle to work, he said.
Lawler suffered several injuries and is still in Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center recovering from a broken pelvis, and possibly a broken left hand, he said.
“I’m in relatively bad shape, but I’m feeling okay,” Lawler said. “I can’t walk, and I’ll have to go through physical therapy and some recovery to get back on my feet.”
According to Lawler, he was hit from the left side by a gray pickup truck, which was going southbound and turning left onto Taft Street. The driver of the pickup truck didn’t see Lawler, who was going northbound in the bike lane and crossing the Taft intersection, he said.
“The officer from San Luis Obispo Police Department told me that the driver told him he had condensation on his windshield and couldn’t see very well,” Lawler said.
Lawler is unsure when he will be able to return back to work at Cal Poly.
