Former Cal Poly men’s soccer forward Mackenzie Pridham was taken by the Vancouver Whitecaps with the 58th overall pick in the fourth round of Tuesday’s MLS SuperDraft making him the second Cal Poly player to be drafted this season.
Pridham, Cal Poly’s all-time leading goal scorer with 27 career goals and a two-time recipient of the Big West Offensive Player of the Year Award, finished the year eighth among Division I players with 14 goals on the season despite Cal Poly’s failure to make the NCAA tournament.
He finished the season two goals shy of the program’s single-season mark in 2013 and posted six game-winners or equalizers for the Mustangs.
Former midfielder George Malki became the first Cal Poly player to be drafted in this year’s SuperDraft when was selected 37th overall by the Montreal Impact.
Pridham is a Toronto native and has had experience playing at the MLS level where he trained with Canadian side Toronto FC last summer.
