The Mustangs improved to 9-5-3 overall and 3-0-3 in the Big West. The Matadors dropped to 10-8-0 overall and 3-4 in the Big West.
Cal Poly came out strong, posting three shots in the first 13 minutes, but the Matadors responded with Matador midfielder Susie Mischenko scoring just 7 minutes, 54 seconds into the match.
Mischenko scored the goal with header at the back post off of a corner kick taken by defender Sara Davis. Cal Poly ended the first half down 1-0.
The Mustangs came back in the second half and leveled the score six minutes into play. Senior midfielder Heidi McQuitty scored the goal off of a header on a corner kick. Senior defender Kim Yackzan posted her first assist this season when she lofted the ball to the six-yard mark and right into the path of McQuitty, who drove it into the back of the net.
The Matadors found themselves shorthanded at the 62:56 mark, when a scuffle after a physical play ended with forward Carrie Faith Murphy being ejected from the game with a red card.
Cal Poly went on the attack posting five shots in the remaining 27 minutes. At the 69:22 mark, senior forward Kelsey Carroll scored her sixth goal of the season to put Cal Poly up 2-1. Freshman defender Kaleena Andruss was credited with the assist when she picked off a miscleared ball in the Matador defense.
