Ryan ChartrandSan Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a call of shots being heard in rural Arroyo Grande on April 19 around 5:45 p.m. The deputies contacted resident Johnny Avalos, 19, who was later determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. A stolen handgun with the serial numbers removed, steroids, several pounds of packaged marijuana and $6,500 in cash was located during their investigation of the home. Avalos was taken into custody and transported to the county jail, where he was booked, according to a press release.

A San Luis Obispo police department supervisor was parked on California Boulevard on April 19, when a 1996 Honda sideswiped the patrol car and continued north, police said. The officer reportedly stopped the vehicle on Foothill Boulevard and contacted the driver, Carlos J. Martinez, who displayed the objective symptoms of being under the influence. Officers conducted a DUI investigation, police said. He was arrested for driving under the influence and is currently being held on $5,000 bail at the county jail, police said.
No one was injured as a result of the collision, and the damage to the police car was minor.
