Authorities are looking for an armed man who allegedly stole a car and tried to kidnap a woman around the Cal Poly campus at 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to an Arroyo Grande Police Department press release. The victim said the man is white or Hispanic, in his 20s and armed with a handgun.
Grover Beach Police Department officers and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department deputies found the victim’s 2000 silver Audi A6 near the 700 block of South Elm St. in Arroyo Grande around 10:15 p.m.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle the driver sped away, jumped an embankment and ended up near Dixon Street and Oak Park Boulevard.
A man in the passenger’s seat attempted to run but police detained him. The driver also fled the vehicle and ran to the 400 block of Golden West Place while authorities followed on foot. Residents called the Arroyo Grande Police Department as the man ran from yard to yard.
Authorities set up a perimeter around the house they suspected he fled to and called the SWAT team before entering the house around 3:30 Thursday morning. The man wasn’t in the house; he is considered armed and dangerous.
