Geoffrey Hyde, who was shot in the back on Thursday night according to police, earned second-team All-Great West Conference honors as a junior, when he started all 11 games. The shooting occurred 400 block of Buena Vista avenue (pictured above).

The San Luis Obispo Police Department is pursuing two suspects in the Nov. 21 shooting of former Cal Poly football player and economics senior Geoffrey Hyde, Captain Chris Staley said.
Hyde, now a student assistant with the football team, was shot in a home on the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue over what the police have described as a possible prescription drug deal.
A suspect described in a media release Friday as “a male black in his 20’s, approximately 6’0” tall with a lanky build … wearing a gray ‘South Pole’ sweatshirt and jeans,” allegedly shot Hyde in the back with a handgun and fled into a car with his accomplice.
The second suspect, “a male Hispanic in his 20’s, 5’6” tall with a ‘chubby build’ and short hair … wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans,” is also believed to have been in the house at the time of the shooting.
Hyde’s family asked Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center not to release his medical information, but a hospital representative said he was still on the premises.
Assistant Marketing Director Stacia Momburg said Cal Poly Athletics wished Hyde good health in the near future, but couldn’t be held responsible for events and actions conducted off campus.
“Just because Geoff is a student here, it doesn’t mean that we can always know or respond to the personal decisions our students make,” Momburg said. “We’re sorry that it happened, and we hope he has a speedy recovery.”
Hyde exhausted his eligibility in 2012 after three seasons as Cal Poly’s starting center. He was named to the All-Great West Conference second team in 2011, and continues to receive his scholarship as a student assistant according to Momburg.
Detectives planned to interview Hyde on Monday for more details, Staley said. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the police department.
