Sophomore starter Casey Bloomquist earned his eighth win in as many starts as the No. 4 Cal Poly baseball team completed a series sweep of Hawaii with a 8-3 win over the Rainbow Warriors in Honolulu on Sunday afternoon.
The Mustangs improved to 30-5 (8-1 Big West) on the season to stay tied atop the conference standings with UC Irvine, while Hawaii dropped to 14-19 (2-7).
Cal Poly has now won six straight and 20 of its last 22. The Mustangs also clinched their ninth series victory with Saturday night’s win against Hawaii.
Bloomquist allowed three runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings pitched to notch the victory, while sophomore designated hitter Brian Mundell hit a two-run home run to lead Cal Poly on offense. The Mustangs pulled away late with three runs in the eighth inning and tacked on another in the ninth.
Junior right fielder Nick Torres collected three hits and knocked in two runs, while senior catcher Chris Hoo, junior left fielder Zack Zehner, sophomore shortstop Peter Van Gansen and sophomore infielder Mark Mathias each had two hits.
The Mustangs travel to Cal State Bakersfield for a mid-week game on Tuesday night before returning home for a three-game series against Cal State Fullerton starting on Thursday.
