Scroll through the jobs posted on MustangJOBS, and it’s clear most employers using the website are focused on the “polytechnic” aspect of Cal Poly.
Jessica Taylor, a recently hired job developer for Career Services, is looking to change that.
Taylor, who joined the department this past September, has been meeting with the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Science and Mathematics to determine the strengths of Cal Poly students in the Arts, Humanities and Sciences. She has also met with faculty to find the companies and employers graduates most want to work for.
Based on what she’s learned, Taylor will now begin connecting with those employers and bringing them to Cal Poly’s campus.
Taylor’s background will come in handy: She has worked in Governor Schwarzenegger’s administration and spent more than five years in sales for Stryker and Intuitive Surgical.
“We wanted someone with experience in sales,” Martin Shibata, director of Career Services, said. “That way they can really sell Cal Poly students to those employers.”
