Public comment on Cal Poly’s new housing development is set to continue for another 45 days, university spokesman Matt Lazier said.
The deadline was originally set for Jan. 25, but has been extended because of the university’s consideration of two other sites for the new residence hall, Lazier said.
The university chose to look at two other sites after permanent San Luis Obispo residents expressed concern about disruption to the neighborhoods around Grand Avenue. The reports about the two sites will be included in an amendment to the project’s environmental impact report (EIR). The university will issue the amended EIR, which will then be subject to 45 days of public comment as required by law.
The university currently plans to build the housing project on the originally proposed Grand Avenue site. The two locations considered in the newly amended EIR were originally rejected because of cost and distance from other freshman housing.
Cal Poly has hired a contractor to prepare the EIR who is in charge of collecting comments from the public about the project. The comments are then placed in the final report, which is presented to the Cal Poly Board of Trustees for approval, Lazier said.
