The Mustangs started off the Big West Conference Tournament in sloppy fashion Thursday at the Anaheim Convention Center against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos trailing 14-10. Mustang forward Tyler McGinn seemed to be the only Mustang player without the early jitters. In the first 10 minutes of play, McGinn had the Mustangs only 5 points, a three-pointer and inside layup.
Fortunately, the Mustang zone defense has keep the game close. With forward Derek Stockalper and McGinn manning down low, and guards Chaz Thomas and Trae Clark patrolling the inside, the Gauchos have been ineffective penetrating the basket.
At the 7:34 mark, McGinn has eights points to lead the Mustangs, while Gabe Stephenson has four rebounds. The Mustangs are shooting a dismal 13.3 percent from the field.
